A big caveat: the topological protection is only exact if fermion parity is conserved—notably violated by "quasiparticle poisoning": https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevB.85.174533

So topological qubits, IF they exist, are still characterized by their coherence times, like any other qubit.

Plus: Majorana-based topological qubits aren't universal and need additional non-topological operations, with their own errors.

No I will not talk to him, he is a lousy journalist. Like for this article, he has not interviewed any Majorana expt. experts. In the past, confused theorists and experimentalists, asked Charlie Marcus to opine while covering Majorana fraud, constructed fake dialogues between sources...
