2/ The Arbitration Court of Krasnodar Krai has fined Volgatransneft, the company which owned the ill-fated Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 tankers, 300,000 rubles for violating rules banning its tankers from operating at sea after the permitted sailing season.

4/ The case relates to the sunken Volgoneft-239 and another tanker from the Volgatransneft fleet, Volgoneft-109. Another case is still to be heard regarding the sunken Volgoneft-212, owned by Kama Shipping, and Volgoneft-270, owned by Volgatransneft.

5/ Volgoneft-239 (seen in the video above) ran aground near Cape Panagia and broke into four fragments. The stern is to be salvaged, while the remaining fragments are submerged at depths of 17 to 23 m. The bow drifted 12 km from the stern before sinking.

6/ Volgoneft-212 split in two and sank in the Kerch Strait 11 km from the coast of the Krasnodar Krai. The two ships had been preparing to dock at Port Kavkaz and were anchored in the strait, 1.5 km from each other, before breaking up.

7/ The company's owner has blamed the port authorities for ordering them to anchor in an unsafe place in stormy conditions. However, as highlighted in the thread below, the ships were so old that they should have been scrapped years ago.
