My parents managed two local drive in theaters when I was a small child. I would go with them. Now we take our kids to one near us. But are they all still playing the national anthem before the movies begin? Iβm just not digging that honestly and would like to go to a different one that doesnβt.
How cool to grow up in drive-ins. I haven't been to one in a long time but I don't remember them playing the anthem. But I do remember this cartoon haha
Apparently it became tradition playing it long ago. There are 3 more theaters in our area that are around the same travel time. Iβll have to do some research to see if they are all still playing it. Fingers crossed that at least one of them gave it up.
Fun Fact: I paid for my first car-a 1969 Camero Convertible, working in the concession stand of our Drive In for 2 summers near my hometown in Indiana. Itβs still there, now owned by the guy who was the Projectionist when I worked there.
We grew up going to the drive in, mom and dad would pack my sister and I up, pop flats filled with snackie stuff, then off to the drive in before dark. We'd watch the cartoons and dancing wieners etc. I remember the "Trinity" marathon most...a lot of Spaghetti Westerns back then.
