Not to mention the fact that many people have talked about the company doing the verification being shady. I’ve heard some folks mention that they got sued for data storage violations, and have been caught selling the facial scan data for AI training

yeah they went over it in an extra update video and tl;dr NEITHER side is supposed to be keeping any information at all minus vrc holding onto your birthdate.

Once you're verified VRC has said everything is supposed to be nuked on both sides with no data retention beyond the above

No. Im upset because them POTENTIALLY making age verification cost money for non vrc+ folks makes running the verified 18+ instances into "who paid money" and NOT "whos over 18"

And let's be real, groups of that size (heh) who already have their own age verification processes in place will likely never use the vrc-based verification gate because members have already verified through our internal methods anyway

Same tbh - ngl the main purpose I see for it is to create an age gated group+ as like a publicity/outreach meetup (sfw of course because g+ is just public with extra steps). Mostly for people who may want to join the group but are not yet sold on that idea and would like to do a vibe check first

I'm hoping they're just doing the VRC+ thing as a way to relieve some of the potential stress of almost the whole community doing verification Day 1.

I did clarify that. the VRC+ things specifically states its an early access thing to do it in waves. It'll be available to non VRC+ members soon(tm).

The problem is whether or not it comes with a cost.

I feel like they'll be likely to roll out our for free. Roblox already does it for free and they have players coming out their ears.

Roblox makes money out the ass though, vrc operates at a loss most of the time. so I can see them making it cost money.
