In that regard I find it cynical to talk about "de-escalation" when what is means is looking the other way and let Putin get on with it. Had we given Ukraine the necessary support from the beginning they could go into real negotiations. Now its not even clear if Putin is going to take a deal at all. - ThreadSky

It’s cynical not to discuss de-escalation. Dwelling on past inaction isn’t constructive. Thousands die daily. If more weapons led to peace, I’d support it, but Ukraine’s withdrawal from some regions seems inevitable and better than losing hundreds of thousands more lives.

I’m clear on the aggressor, but how can this war end if we keep fueling it with money and weapons? The approach seems inconsistent since no NATO country wants direct involvement. It’s ironic that advocates for arms often oppose aiding migrants or providing public services - see glorified CDU 2/2

Now it might be too late as Ukraine ran out of soldiers due to insufficient military aid. But had we equipped them sooner they might have brought themselves into a much better position for negotiations. Why are you trying to impose an ideology onto me? Never said anything about migrants/ps. 1/2

True, you didn’t mention that. My point was about parties like the CDU, parts of the Greens, and FDP, which strongly push for more weapons but ironically neglect Ukrainians’ needs here revealing, in my view, the economic "Lobby" motives behind their advocacy.

So parties supporting Ukraine are just lobbying for the military complex? That is a bit one-sided don't you think? Especially since we also have BSW that is directly reiterating Kreml Propaganda and the current head of SPD also seems very keen on cozying up to Putin.

That’s not a conspiracy, it’s a fact that the parties I mentioned, with interests in military supplies, are deeply tied to the military sector. This isn’t a generalization, as you suggest, but a glaring truth. Especially when weapons are used to gain voters we need to consider their various motives

it just sickens me that western security guarantees apparently are worthless and that we somehow "escalate" things. F* that narrative, its just cowardice paired with hypocrisy. And Scholz patting his own back every opportunity for the measly support we give is so tiring and embarrassing. 2/2
