Owl: I just took a break after delivering several messages to the same house and the kid won’t open a single one. Now someone snaps a shot of me and makes it look like I haven’t been working all night. Thanks. No, really. I am so fired after this.
I have a fear of owls, but bluesky helps me out with the fear! It's so good to see that I'm getting used to seeing owl pics and find it wonderful to see good pictures of the beautiful birds 😁
Awesome pic ! We have a family who talk to each other at night at our cabin, half hour from the Canadian border. SUCH a delight to be awakened with their group discussions. We figure there are 5 of them when they encircle the camp to banter back n forth.
Please follow me back. Just need love and hope in my life. No advice. No judgement. Am here to support others who have love and can ride out this storm of life together. You posts help us.
Is that Steve?? Yeah, definitely looks like Steve! He's 100% a barred owl. He got barred from Smiley's for getting super drunk and dancing on the table with a lampshade on his head. That wacky owl, I swear to god 😂
Nice shot! You might be interested in the Large Forest Owl project in NSW Australia. My property is ground zero for the project. So many habitat trees were lost in the 2019 Black Summer Fires. https://www.nature.org.au/owls_project
Great photo! I put up an owl house for my mom a few years ago and highly recommend. Last year, we had multiple Western Screech Owl fledglings and I learned a lot about their behavior and even got some photos with my terrible phone camera. This year, we have more elusive Barn Owls.
It wasn’t until playing Wingspan than I realized there are both Barn Owls and Barred Owls and not just some congestion-related speech impediments afoot
Yes. They outcompete the spotted owl for the same habitat. So much so that there’s an effort to destroy 350000 barred over the next 10 years to improve the spotted owl’s survival chances.
Pretty bird! Had one of those try to take off the top of my bike helmet once, by landing on it with talons outstretched. Thought I’d hit a small tree branch. Fearless predators!
In Washington state, U.S., they are going to cull over 600k barred owls ("invasive species") to try and restore territory for the endangered spotted owl. Not sure how I feel about this. The barred owl population here has exploded due to climate change and habitat loss.
Amazing! We had a whole family of barred owls in our trees this past spring. The babies would screech in the late afternoon, and the parents would hoot and holler all night. They sounded like wild monkeys when they got themselves riled up!

Bonus view later in a tree.
Great shot!
I love owls as does my girlfriend who has figurines everywhere.
Her second love is octopuses strangely enough.
