For me I have 2 main things. If local (Mayor, city council) are they going to promote walkable city concepts and push for better public transit.

As for everything else it’s usually how anti-corporate or pro-environmentalism they are.

Walkable cities would be nice. And yes transportation almost anywhere is a mess. If we could find a way to redo transportation and make it more reliable like Europe I wouldn't even need a car.

Dang it, @jauntymoose.bsky.social beat me to it. The issues are definitely important all around. Single issue voters cause a lot of issues with our system as they're too focused on their hangups to actually look at everything else around specific candidates.

Where I live, the R is going to win, so it doesn't make a lot of sense to put energy into finding out more about the candidates.

Aww :( I'm kinda across the board when it comes to voting I don't mind R if they have a good track record. Seems harder and harder to find these days. Politics so messy. I'm in favor of a new party being created.

Yes but there are some in history that actually maintained the views of the people and if you are as old as I am 35 you'll remember when Democrats used to act like current reps(minus crazy) and reps used to act like Democrats.

Does the person demonstrate they have empathy for people? Do they promote humanist values? Do they know the limits of their own knowledge and work with people to strengthen their weaknesses? Will they ever say “my bad” if they’ve made a mistake? If so, I vote.

When voting for any elected position, it’s important to consider multiple factors, not just 1 or 2. Instead of focusing on 1 or 2 issues, take the time to research each candidate. Then, choose the candidate whose values and policies align most closely with yours.

—We research and study for things all of the time! Studying for a test, earning a certification, completing onboarding at a new job, crafting a resume for a job application, etc. Think of how amazing it would be if we normalized researching before voting with the same level of dedication.

I agree and I'll do better in the future when it comes to my candidates whether it's national or local. To go beyond a couple points of interests to me.
