From my perspective, there needs to be more considerations for the ethics involved. The answer to "can we use this ethically?" is really starting to crystalise around "no".

Things such as the environmental impact being absurd, the training data being mostly stolen, and it's cost and the investment going into it being very dubious.

So I don't think we should encourage its uncritical use where other mature solutions exist.

If chemists are using AI in research and industry it would be really useful to know how they are using it, so we can train our students to use it in the same way.

I heard a bit about this from guest editor at a talk in Exeter who talked about 3 waves of articles: how to react (managing cheating etc); how to use it; and how to do interesting things. The latter was later in timeline so may not be in SI as much, but hopefully people moving in that direction.

That sounds about right!
I hope we reach the latter phases soon. I don't know much about the area, but appreciate it's potential and the importance it's going to have in shaping Chem Ed in the coming years.
