It is a failure of reading but its roots are OWNERSHIP. Coloniser extractive mentality: what can I take from this text (sci-fi, philosophy, games, whatever) to use & own. SF is more directly about (whether pro or anti) colonisation & mining than most Anglo realist fiction so it's more usable.

Reading this, it struck me that all this techbro discourse, from colonising Mars to AI, is all a massive failure of reading. It is an artefact of the philistinism of people who read/watch SF and fail to understand that most basic thing about it: it's not about the future or space. It's metaphor.
