Looking at this marvelous picture and the Couriers and Librarians one makes me wonder: are the yellow parts where the gold is? For this one I guess it is, but there's a lot of yellow on the C&L, is it all gold? (sorry if my question sounds stupid)

It’s a great question! Yes where you see the gold color, that’s where the gold leaf is. Easy enough to tell in the bear. In C&L there’s gold accents in the birds wings & halo, the skirt and the whole book shelf are solid gold with paint on top - lines obviously but the shaded bits too.

I this shot video while I was working on C&L back in 2019 (I think). It shows where all the gold is before I started painting. Apologies, it’s a bit long and I also felt the need to show my messy palette.

Thank you for replying! The video is very enlightening indeed. What a pity that the gold shine is lost when photographed! You work hard on it and only the original painting keeps it. Which makes the original more original and valuable but... still 😅

I started using gold in my paintings so seeing them in person is a unique experience. 🙂

Yeah it’s true the camera can only capture one static view but that’s true for any still image. Fun fact: the photographer who shoots my work developed a special technique to shoot my work!

Oooh that's super interesting! Are you allowed to tell more about that photography technique or is it covered by professional confidentiality?

Other question, have you considered photomanipulating your finished pieces to recreate a fake gold effect, or is it something that would distort your work?
