For me, the best reason to move on from Twitter is that it no longer worked for me. I had 30k followers and if I posted a link to my work it would get 5-10 clicks.
Additionally when I open the app I'm shown tiktok style content that doesn't interest me along with tweets from the site owner.

Most of us have read or scrolled past thumbsucking takes on whether Dems, libs, et al should or should not stay on X (née Twitter). They've appeared in news outlets that seem oblivious to the ethical *abomination* of journalists using X like any other platform.

I have very little interest in politics, but was mostly shown political content.
On the old twitter you could permanently turn off the algorithmic feed.
The political economy is real.
In a democracy, not only are you the customer, but democracy allows the consumer to set the rules of the game.
Which obviously, people Elon and other assorted wannabe kings don't like very much.
Making people disinterested in politicking seems to be an objective of the politicians. Social media is making it worse.
You could follow 200 people, but that won't matter. You might see new accounts the next day
I assume this was done to optimize the requests to fill your feed but it was at the expense of UX
