Except now, students that need a Special School place are being placed inappropriately in mainstream schools, with insufficient funding to support their needs.

Children being placed in a great many Special schools also receive insufficient funding to support their needs. The SEND system is consistent only in its dysfunction.

I'm hearing of examples such as children being placed in ms, with 1:1 specified on EHCP, given £8K funding. How are schools supposed to make that work?

It’s bonkers. On the rare occasion we require an allocated 1:1, the funding gap is around £10,000 per member of staff. So not quite as bad as that but still unacceptable.The system is littered with breaches of statutory responsibilities to fund provision. I spent some of today putting 1/2

together a presentation for our Governors on all the occasions concerns re. funding have been raised with the LA/DfE. It’s quite the time line. Nobody can claim that the inaction is a result of ignorance. So frustrating. 2/2

Absolutely, and just trying to ensure that you're getting all the funding you're entitled to sucks up so much school time, which could be much better spent elsewhere. SENCos shouldn't have to spend all their time chasing up the LA.
