idk but people who talk about “good schools” without interrogating how school ratings usually reflect average household income and not quality of instruction always feel like racists dressed in plausible deniability to me

i went to public schools all over georgia because my family moved a lot and sometimes they were well rated and sometimes they weren’t and i had good and bad teachers in both 🤷🏻♀️
grew up to attend a private college and university and was utterly flabbergasted to find that my peers were not in fact way smarter than the kids i knew in public school
i think often about bell hooks describing to her students in harlem that they are not in fact less intelligent than her students at yale, but that her harlem students were not raised with the same sense of entitlement to power and attention, and i wonder sometimes—
anyway my spouse and i intentionally moved to a city public school district that has mediocre ratings and if i ever manage to have a kid, that’s where my kid will go to school

in fact, sometimes they were significantly dumber
but they were all much more wealthy!
the greatest lie that the very wealthy ever made us internalize is that our worth must somehow be earned from their good regard
the fuck???
private schools be damned
