I don't identify with the interpretation myself but I've come to realize that if it helps people find courage and or joy, I really shouldn't care.
It doesn't doesn't affect my enjoyment of the character.

I think it’s really important. I don’t think it’s “canon” or was at all intentional, but it conforming to enough criteria to be allegory (especially to people who need it) is enough for that to be part of how I always think of the character.

Aside from Takua and the general trend of physical transformations throughout Bionicle, I think many trans people appreciate how the gender of characters is often independent from their biology. For instance, you’ll have masculine and feminine Matoran, but both are built the exact same.
