One additional note: I know the CBC has a target from many in Canada. And CBC top execs taking bonuses in previous years is foul IMO. No minds ever get changed on social media but I come from a land where cable news has become so corrosive for Americans. So I hope enough Canadians value this. - ThreadSky

Been watching the CBC for a couple of hours now as they report live on Chrystia Freeland resigning. The coverage is informative, thoughtful and most importantly: It educates those watching.

Just light years more valuable for viewers than U.S. cable news IMO. No focus on 'winning" the argument.

Unfortunately the CBC (IMO) has swung too far to the left, or at least a programming agenda that is left I think the news dept is still neutral, or will piss off all sides. The conservative side in Canada hate them, and if PP forms the next majority government, it will be gutted or shuttered.

I do know the political calculus at play. I've been watching all day and they have had guests that have certainly been very critical of Trudeau and Singh. I'm an outsider so certainly acknowledge I don't have decades of watching. But I do know what happened in the U.S.

Non-essential areas of the economy could fall under the pure Capitalism economy (until or if it becomes essential)

(US isn't a pure Capitalism economy, but it is far closer to one than Canada is). Essential services like news, health, banking, education, water, power, housing, food, etc and as new things become essential should be socialized and not profit motivated first.

Fully Agreed. The US media has largely been sold out by making it solely a for-profit business.
This is one of the many reasons a pure Capitalism economy never works and instead a country's economy needs to be based on many different economic theories where they make sense

The people who need to hear it won't. We've already become Americanized into wanting news to confirm our beliefs, and that which does not conform is "fake, untrustworthy." We will get the "truth" from the leaders we idolize, and the fringe outlets which kiss the ring. We don't "need" mainstream news
