I think fans like to cosplay as GMs/owners. They think about they'd handle the budget. So they start commenting on contract 'values'.

Yeah I can’t give you answer but I always want the player to get paid. Careers are short and most players came from nothing or very little. Woody Johnson is a clown who hit the lucky sperm club. I can’t ever root for that guy but I will root for the players

Probably the fact that owners outlast a star player and the star that follows that star player. A couple iterations of that team, at least. Also higher buy-in from the owner b/c, well, he owns the joint, whereas the player “just works there” and may ask to be traded as soon as something goes wrong.

I want players to get more than their fair share.

But I also recognize that ultimately means that I just pay more for something I truly enjoy because the owner isn’t likely to be making less.

Somehow they delude themselves that the owners are the ones taking the risk in this equation. It’s same the same as siding with ownership over workers…. “The owner creates jobs” and all that nonsense.

People don't care about those who have a ton since birth, but hate others getting more, especially people who started just like them.

I think for those people, the loyalty is to the team/the laundry. The owner controls the laundry. The player - by leaving, holding out, or wanting more money - can potentially hurt the laundry.

Plus I think that some people resent others who make money doing something that seems like recreation.
