If you don't find a home for them from these suggestions, if you donate them to AAUW's book sale, they will probably get bought by teachers anyway at a steep discount, and you will help generate scholarship funds for AAUW that will also stay in our community.

My mother would call a couple of the teachers at our school and bring the outgrown books over. The teachers know what individual kids might have particular interests and which ones were in financially-challenged situations so the teacher could rehome the books effectively.

You can also see if your town/city has a local literacy program where they take used children’s books. Any volunteer organizations or churches that do work with communities in need might want them too.
