What we used to do way back before any of this crap was to backup what we needed, encrypted, to a drive you needed to go through a tunnel to access then secure erase before we traveled and restore the other end.

I started backing up my phone and factory resetting it. Then I would enter a few numbers on it that I needed. Nothing else. Customs would give me the side-eye but there was nothing they could do about it.

I'm a bit leery of the phrase "denied entry." Story after story is actually "detained with no recourse in terrible conditions."

Article published originally in 2017, but updated. Still, it's using the 2017 paradigm of what happens to you at the border. The fear isn't being denied entry, it's worse.

I get that but I doubt there’s any particular heightened security simply on packages arriving. Obviously, if there’s reason to suspect you are already a target or potential target, it different.

I mainly mean the 3 Canadians coming for a visit that might have “Trump is an asshole” in a text.
