He didn’t know that Will pulled the knife out of the same sense of desperation to regain control of himself. The way they misunderstood each other’s intentions & feelings towards each other-

They understand everyone else’s motivations & feelings better than anyone on the planet, but their individual insecurities make them each other’s blind spot, so they often mistake each other’s intentions & motivations for their actions. Those misunderstandings are DEVASTATING!
