I guess you mean that then LBJ was somew friendly towards Europe
De Gaulle kicked out all US (&Canadian/British) troops from the Patrie ground and sky. France later reintegrated Nato command (a mistake) in 2009.
We are not that powerful compared to the US, but with 290 nukes, powerful enough

Took me a minute, but obviously you are correct in those 2 facts (Indochine). Does not change my opinion that France/Europe should, as de Gaulle wanted, become independent of the US, economically & militarily. Whether possible is more complicated.
