In a system built on consuming, I thrift, repair, buy secondhand, and barter whenever I can. I am a heavy library user. When I buy, I try to buy locally as much as I can to keep money in my community. Of course I do have to buy things and I can't always get what I need locally, but I try my best.

I love this so much. I also try to spend money locally although I do have an unfortunate reliance on Target as I've weened myself off Amazon. I've been really using the Buy Nothing Group a lot, mostly to offload but we did get some fresh basil two years ago.

People who take the time to offload instead of pitching something in the trash are showing such a kindness! There's a lot of hassle involved for the giver and/or seller (posting, scheduling pick up) and I'm always grateful when I can find something I need that way.

I married someone who is much more ambitious than I ever have been, and therefore am in better financial and physical shape than I would have been on my own.
