no. there are culturally relevant items you can use in the same way. cowrie shells are so dear to many descendants of chattel slavery because we have had so much taken from us to begin with. please find something else.

It was clearly a sentiment of solidarity.

I expect the response was meant to be educational, but "no" is a blunt instrument in the English language.

In this case, it immediately denied acceptance of the sentiment and came across as po-faced.
