Just a little reminder that the South Korean president who just declared martial law was elected two years ago on a wave of anti-feminist backlash. Misogyny is routinely part of the authoritarian package.

What I find absolutely intriguing (also frustrating) is the number of misogynist women out there.
I think it's because the idea is often times planted as soon as a baby can talk. Our toys. Our halloween costumes. Our cartoons. The shit we hear our parents and grandparents say.

I do think in order for the idea of immutable binary gender to thrive, there needs to be a suppression of empathy across genders, which serves to make all these gross power imbalances stronger, and their are many women who are invested in immutable binary gender (as society encourages them to be)

Yes! Only I think it's a little pushier than "encouragement". They sold this idea to us on every front. Toys, commercials, shows, movies, music, books.. this is what you're supposed to want n if you don't you're bad! This is who you're supposed to be and if you aren't nobody will like you! Comply!

I think that's getting better, but I'm GenX and it was SO obvious when I was a kid. I was teased by both adults and peers for being a "Tom boy" because I liked "boy" things such as building forts, not wanting to be a princess for Halloween, and liking Voltron better than Strawberry Shortcake.
