The Republican Trump Administration seems to be going for full indoctrination of citizens into their authoritarian ideology. Intellectuals, the legislators, the courts, and the free press are some of the first to be corralled. The powerful are not financially burdened and the public believe lies.

I follow some science sites and scientific publications. There is going to be a gigantic brain drain as scientists move elsewhere for greater opportunities and stability of funding. Our loss will be to other countries’ gain. US scientific pre-eminence will vanish.
