I have a soft spot for the Assassin's Creed series. It's truly a franchise with so much missed potential, the games could be so fuckin good but each one has it's own flaws that stop it from ever fully realising itself. There will never be a perfect AC game, but it's that potential that facinates me.
Death Stranding is probably the most divisive game I love although I think a lot of the hate has died down over the years, and it's more like 60/40 ratio from people who enjoy it to people who hate it nowadays.
That's a game I just don't get. I've put in the time for a proper opinion, but I always felt like I was waiting for it to get good. Love the world, but don't understand the game. No shade, but yeah, I'm definitely on that side of dislike.
Yeah that's fair I can see why some aren't as into it.
I enjoyed the relaxing feels, the story and the gradual progress. The combat was kinda fun but you don't get a lot of opportunities to do the cool moves.
It does have some flaws I'd love to see improved upon in the sequel
I would like to pick your brain on the game, if you're interested. Like, I actually enjoyed it in the early stages, where Sam was on foot, and every seemingly "normal" piece of terrain was an insurmountable task (oh fuck a river?!). But as soon as I got the bike, the game became an absolute snooze.
It felt simply bored going from point A to point B for the next story beat. Thoughts? Maybe it's the type of gamer I am, but I just took that thing everywhere and it was just hours of porting with no conflict or challenge outside of scripted events.
i think i had the ideal Death Stranding experience on the couch w/ my partner, treating it almost like a movie/show where we were discussing ongoing story confusion while playing together, plotting paths and ideas together, panicking and learning the game together
I don't enjoy it anymore but this used to be Destiny. Over 4500 hours into Destiny 2 that came to an end following the layoffs, the story becoming mostly lackluster, issues with clanmates etc. Gameplay feels great though I'll give it that
Vintage Story is a game that ive never seen anyone really *dislike* but more so unable to play it because its one of those things you really gotta commit to, its so hard to find people to play with lol
Mine's Dragon's Dogma 2. I really liked the gameplay, even if it was a little easy, but people hated it because of the very... convoluted main story. The pawns were a ton of fun to mess around with and witness, as my own pawn shaped up to be my favorite companion in any game ive played.
Jak & Daxter lost Frontier.
Game's story? Sucks.
Gameplay? Eh... Sometimes buggy...
Ideas? Listen. Everyone will say this is the worst Jak and Daxter game, I say, it's one I grew up with, and I will always cherish memories made with.
Ngl I really enjoy Starfield just because it’s like a “Star Trek” version of Skyrim. Granted I’ve put in over 100 hours already and haven’t started the main quest so I could be completely wrong
Destiny. I get the problems thats with it. Hell I'm still mad about Escalation Protocol and the end to Seraph (the end was fucking perfect but WHY YOU GOTTA KILL OFF MY BOI!?) But even then, its still a ton of fun to burn down all of Sol with the powers given to me!
i dont know about dislike, but Tribes has a spot in my heart for a game that no other game comes close to the feel of replicating.
A pvp shooter that requires you to lead all targets cuz (*most) weapons have travel time and players are moving anywhere from 0 to 400+ kph, including in the air
its just so unique and fun and i put thousands of hours into it, was on a competitive team even with some great buds
but it's such a niche kind of game that requires so much learning to even move around, the skill floor is too high for modern gamers; i dont think another'll come anytime soon
I guess the closest thing for me would probably be MegaMan 8. While people don't "dislike" it, it's widely regarded as one of the worst classic MM titles, but I absolutely adore it. The presentation and vibes have so much charm that I'm mostly willing to look past the somewhat lackluster gameplay.
People complain about nothing happening, but there is environmental story telling, a narrator in your ear reading off the letters the protagonist was writing.
Theres little environmental secrets that are randomized and so are the narrative lines. The whole thing is a different story every time.
Mortal Kombat, at least in my fighting game circles. I know it's popular in the mainstream sense, but people drag MK pretty much anywhere that can come close to fighting game communities.
It's funny, the MK games sell very well but if you look at only the opinions of hardcore fighting game fans you'd think they were some of the worst games ever made and no one likes them
Funny, I noticed the same thing. I'm not like a pro fighter, but yeah, my coworkers are shocked I haven't played MK, but it never crosses the lips of my nerdy gamer friends.
I admit I haven't played it in years so maybe I wouldn't like it as much but I definitely liked it FAR more than almost everyone else. A shame it probably killed the series though.
I'm with you on this one. It was super fun when I played it at launch, but even I question their design decisions at the time. Felt like it was unfairly shat upon, but had some truly epic moments that I still remember.
Yeah it just felt nice getting a Star Fox game again, I guess lol Yeah I did forget to mention, I don't blame anyone for not liking the controls. I dealt with it but even I have to admit there were some parts where they got annoying. I really gotta fire it up again...
I'm also a bit of a Wii U apologist so I guess it's fitting that I like Star Fox Zero 😩Hell, related, I'll throw Sonic Lost World in there. I do consider it a mixed bag overall but I also think that game is overhated
Sure it has the weakest writing/story of any game in the series, but mechanically (i.e. the combat, driving sections etc) it is (after patches, admittedly) an objectively better game than Mass Effect 1.
One game I know alot of people dislike but I quite like has to be Far Cry New Dawn. I can absolutely understand why people don't like it, there were some questionable choices made, like having some rpg elements and the story being very much meh.
Destiny 2-
It's fun, but throughout the years of its run, it garnered a lot of hate. A lot of it is justified, yes, but playing it for the lore at times is why I enjoy it
Mirror's Edge (2008)! Most people in my circle either don't like it or aren't interested, but I periodically replay it because I think it was one of EA's last unique and interesting games. I love the retro-future atmosphere and minimalistic style.
Bioshock: Infinite was one for me. My friend gifted it to me one a whim, turned out to be one of my favorite FPS games for awhile. It wasn't until I tried to gush about the game that I realized how hated it was amongst the fanbase lol
my issue with bioshock: infinite is that it just doesn't feel like a bioshock game at all. when I think bioshock i think rapture, not sky america. as its own thing, its a really good game, but it just doesn't fit into the bioshock games. plus burial at sea was so bad I couldn't finish it
Comments
It's considered to be the black sheep of the franchise but when you look past it's flaws its a beautiful game
I really enjoyed playing Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.
Struggling to think of more examples at the moment.
It's always "Crash this" and "Crash that". Spyro only ever gets screen time when the bandicoot wills it so.
Spyro suffers the fate of DK, and that's being invited ONLY to the spinoffs, never their main games.
it was super buggy on release and never recovered its rep

alone i could see it more... eh?

Destiny had me captivated and I’ve just been taking a break since TFS
WoW however has enraptured me with it’s RP scene, it’s so much fun! So long as you curate your experience anyways
As someone whom came from the monatary BS that is Destiny 2, Warframe was VERRY confusing at first but i gained massive respect for it

Its a walking sim with a gorgeous soundtrack made by Jessica Curry.
The game is essentially one big ambiguous story from an unreliable grieving narrator over the loss of his wife.
Its good damnit.

I found the game to be a zen exploration game with fun ship customizable gameplay. I was not aware of the controversy behind the game until recently.
I admit I haven't played it in years so maybe I wouldn't like it as much but I definitely liked it FAR more than almost everyone else. A shame it probably killed the series though.

Plus Vetra is bae.

I’ll never forget that one time an asshole signed up for a professional job application website just to slander everyone who worked on the shows.
The new one was a big disappointment though :(
Literally every hack, unfunny youtuber has a Sonic joke.
Those are the types of people who probably loved it when Sega bragged about Sonic being the only character in Sonic 4
