Iraq will confiscate all weapons and military equipment. They're likely trying to declare asylum, which presumably gives them some legal rights, but they'll have to be herded somewhere while the legal and diplomatic processes work out.

They need to surrender, go to prison or the firing squad or join the victors - we’ve seen what happened when the fucking Republican Guard ran away in Iraq. Don’t let them escape.
I'm sure many of the rebels are probably going to follow them. Reminder that most of these people don't view Syria-Iraq border as legitimate so won't treat it as such
