Lowering the mobilization age in Ukraine is necessary but must come with proper conditions, says 3rd Assault Brigade deputy commander Maksym Zhorin. He suggests offering 1-2 year contracts instead of service until the end of martial law, along with financial incentives and clear service terms.

You don't want to lose troops with experience, but everyone should get the necessary rest and have a good chance to survive the war alive.
6 months for a normal infantry man and 12 if they want to continue to train as NCOs.
Meaning no point having ppl train for 12 only for them not to be needed
Here in Finland we train every 18+ male (for women its voluntary) and can raise 800.000+ trained troops if needed. That is the price we are willing to pay living next to Russia.
It is a binding force in the society. You will know that the rich kid serves just the same as you and if the shit hits the fan his life depends on you and vice versa.
I think in the UK army has somewhat lost it appeal as it is surely not the best career choice.
If instead army was about free education in your field of expertice that benefits you in civil life (as it is seen here) I think attitudes would be different.
