Violet Manners was an artist, muse and one of the great beauties of her time. She was a prominent member of The Souls, an elite social set devoted to intellectual and artistic pursuits. Shannon, one of the leading portraitists in London, painted Violet on several occasions.
In this portrait, you see her holding a sketchbook with her eyes fixed on the artist. A glazed terracotta of the Virgin and Child frames her head which is surrounded by lemons. #JamesJebusaShannon
