Finally went to the ear doctor about my tinnitus, after putting it off for a few years thinking there was nothing they could do. You’ll never guess what they said they could do.

Bro I figured out like a few months ago that my nose just straight up didn't work and I had just accepted that for half of my life and couldn't breath through my nose and now it's like so everyone else has had access to this much air the whole time?!?!
Just bought my first set of hearing aids yesterday. I'm 36. Have had tinnitus all my life. Turns out no one told me my entire family has crap hearing, and they still let me play drums in a garage band and get a degree in music anyway. It sucks, man.
Got my first set in 1991 or so, and I love my most recent set from 2019, which are bluetooth-enabled. Have fun as you experience certain sounds for the first time!
Hey whoa! I'm getting fitted for hearing aids due to tinnitus from mild hearing loss, and no one told me until yesterday that a bunch of my cousins have hearing aids too, and my grandfather and his father both had crappy hearing... and I'm 37! Fuck tinnitus, but 🤞🤞 for cyborg life!
Nice! Make sure you shop around...my audiologist was quoting like $3k a set ($1400ish after insurance) but I found some at costco that will only be like $700 out of pocket for me.
THEN take those savings and use it on a midlife crisis item (that's what I'm doing to combat my fleeting body)
Ugh yeah...you have no idea how long it took me to figure out how much it would cost me out of pocket to go to Costco instead of my ENT, and then I found out yesterday it'll be 4-5 months before I'm reimbursed. Luckily I can afford it. Many can not. Solidarity ✊
That does suck - I at least got a nice audiologist who showed me my hearing loss graph and explained that playing music in clubs wasn't responsible for this gap and that gap there, it was genetics. I wanted to tattoo that on my arm for every jerk who says "should have worn earplugs" - I DID
Haha I mean there is also the "should have worn earplugs" aspect but that would probably still leave me with hearing aids at age, say, 56 or 46 instead of 36. At least the younger you get them the more your brain will adapt to them.
Contrary to popular belief, doctors don't actually have any obligation at all to even TRY to help you. They can always just say there's nothing they can do. It's pretty much just a matter of pride whether they decide to help you.
I tried to be a good patient and call the doctor about a weird symptom I was having. They made me go to the ER immediately. I spent 7 hours in the ER for them to tell me it was “probably just allergies.” And it was ONLY $100 because I have really good insurance.
I pulled a muscle or something in my chest once, it hurt so bad to breathe I ended up going to the ER
Hours later, they were like "You're not having a heart attack, you can go home" and I was like "okay but it still hurts too much to breathe and I'm kinda fond of doing that"
Went to the er several years ago for what ended up being meningitis, and the er doc asked if I had ringing in my ears. I said I always have it. He asked why I never told my pcp. I said, "Why? What is he going to do about it?" And the er dr just shrugged
