About 10, maybe 15, years ago I associated a photo with my gmail account which now no longer appears anywhere on my Google profile. However, it still automatically gets used as a profile pic if I use my gmail to create an account on certain websites - most recently Policy Commons. Anyone know why? - ThreadSky

Is it possible you connected that email address to Gravatar at some point? (https://gravatar.com/) It is a cross-platform profile picture tool.

Did you ever make (accidentally or on purpose) make a Gravatar account?

I started seeing a nonphoto image in accounts I knew I’d never uploaded a pic to. Freaked me out. Comic-Rocket was one. Emailed the admin asking WTF? and they patiently explained and I was able to disable.

That’s where mine came from. I’d used Wordpress to make a fake/demo/silly predatory journal website.
