You can add to that Tsimikas being off the pitch when the goal was scored because of the rule that says if you get fouled and injured you have to go off for an extended period of time and the player who injured him scores.

But let's book players for not taking corners quick enough.

It’s a yellow for cynically stopping (or trying to) a counter attack before you even factor in the challenge/contact.

Indeed, he doesn’t get the ball, therefore a foul. My thought, as above, is that a foul in that situation (trying to stop a counterattack) is very often given as a yellow from the football I’ve seen, and generally described as “cynical”. So he is lucky twice, in my opinion…

A cynical foul is when there is no intent to actually legally make a tackle.

Like when you see players just clip an attacker or pull them back.

He's definitely lucky but it wasn't a cynical foul.

I interpreted it as a “I might get the ball, I might not, but I’m definitely bringing him down…”. He didn’t get the ball, he did bring the player down. That’s why I called it cynical.

You feel he genuinely thought he was going to get the ball, that’s cool too.

What's completely maddening is reading stuff like "isn't it silly VAR can't be used on second yellows" Yes, that is silly. It's also silly that it's not used on all yellows. The point is getting rid of obviously incorrect decisions (if only we could have a sensible discussion about what those are)

My contention is that unless it is glaringly obvious that it's a mistake then VAR should be nowhere near it. We all need to cool our jets about what we think is a mistake versus a decision we just don't like. Just imagine that world.
