I'm ok with giving animators and the production teams more tools in their arsenal, but they shouldn't cut out the artists.

Apparently this short from earlier this year was Toei experimenting with AI for the backgrounds, they ran pictures of a Japanese city through an AI model to generate the basic backgrounds, then passed them to background illustrators to touch things up.

Sorry YouTube mobile UI is extremely annoying for this but look at the size of the doors/windows in this scene and look at the character.

They all look fine next to the objects immediately close to them but compared to eachother they make no sense - like different elements pasted into an image.
