Planning for a larger Government should probably include planning for climate resiliency as well. Having the capitol in the middle of the country has resilience upsides AND is more democratic as it's easier for more of the population to access.

There's many different ways to go about uncapping the house. The "Wyoming method" ( population/rep set by the least populous state ) is one but i personally prefer the idea of having it based on set population, Washington was in favor of 1 rep per 30,000. That would give us a house of 11,000!

IIRC it was either the Federalist papers or a proposed section of the Constitution that mentioned 1 Rep per 50K people. I think we should at least have 2 Reps for the least populous state (1 per 250K), maybe 1 per 100K.

How can we have made so much progress in so many areas and yet have gone backwards in the most fundamental aspect of our government - elected representation?

it was! a proposed amendment to the bill of rights in 1789! I think that both Washington's 30K and the amendment's 50K are too small to be practical. I think 100K would be ideal, part of the purpose to ensure that reps have real relationships with their district.

If we continued the algorithm contained within #ArticleTheFirst, we’d have ~1700 reps serving ~190k constituents each.

If we went with its originally proposed minimum, the #HalfWyomingRule, we’d have about ~1200 reps serving ~290k People each.

There’s no way 435 is enough for 330m Americans.

Chuck Todd suggested increasing the number of House seats on his podcast this morning. He said it would also change the balance of power in the electoral college as large states gain many more seats than the smallest states. Does it require support from both chambers to add seats?
