I worry they’ll just cram it into so many things we won’t have much choice, instead of actually listening to the market and ditching it. My last washerdryer claimed to use AI (LG thinq) and jesus christ was I glad to be rid of it. It is NOT a plus that the washer takes 3 hrs longer. 😑

Oh mine will, thankfully, because that’s daft! It does seem to have some sort of security thingy that turns the oven off if it gets too hot or something, wich is weird because why would you let me set that temp if it was too hot for the oven? Can we just get appliances that WORK? 😭

when this shit started, Harlequin Books made clear they won't use AI for their covers...
Just think about it : 2/3 of their books have a cover that could be summarized as "Hey dude, where is my shirt ?" and they said "nope, we respect our customers & artists, we won't use that slop."

I see none either. Must be that aimod really works. Nice to see confirmation that they really do get to speak into the void. There are many platforms to share ai slops - reddit and IG even promote use of AI tools, 200 mil users as potential audience. I opt out to be one of them.

I think part of it is the current broad access makes it very attractive to scammers and spam ads, so your, maybe very legitimate and expensive product gets shoved in the same bin as some crypto rugpull ad. Doesn't help that AI images "look" a certain way

It's like NFTs, but taking longer to die out, possibly because AI has been a concept/term for much longer, and has only become polarizing since it started getting used to plagiarize/replace human artists, writers, and other workers.

Obviously, my main issues with AI "art" are the aforementioned plagiarism and replacing humans, plus the fact that it's not really art. But a smaller complaint I have is that it's ruining the reputation of the very term "AI" and its potential for good.

"AI" is actually a vague, nebulous term, and it's been used for everything from controlling opponents in Mario Party to helping animators replicate Chuck Jones' lineart in The Peanuts Movie. But now AI's being used so irresponsibly, that I am wary of any product/service even MENTIONING the term.
