Controversial opinion: I don't like the whole starter pack thing over here. I don't favour being fed who to follow by a relatively small number of actors. I'd rather just take the time to curate slowly and carefully again.

Like any tool it depends how you use it. For me I use it to find people I used to follow on Twitter as I haven’t had an account there in years. But I’m not going to mass follow people.
Agreed. I downloaded a starter pack from someone I respect, but then realized the sheer number of accounts I had followed in one fell swoop would heavily bias my feed. So I started unfollowing, one by one.

i think i've only used such recommendations once or twice in the past decade across all platforms
i brutally curate my youtube feed, and 99% of my consumption is now from the things i subscribe to vs algo driven content
as with all things, it takes a bit of time
