I seldom come across places like this that are still furnished. The things left behind appear to be broken junk, but to the former owners, they loved and cherished them. Makes me sad seeing the gorgeous antique furniture rotting away.
Even worse when you see photos that were taken of this place several months after this. People did horrific things to the contents of that house. Why anyone would do that is beyond me, but the place as ravaged.
The same happened to my favorite ghost town several years ago. After someone posted a video claiming they “discovered” it, outsiders began to travel in droves to it and wrecked the place. Most of the houses were intact and were furnished, with food still in the fridges.
It didn’t have any signs of vandalism or graffiti at all. The whole town was a time capsule; many of the houses had Atomic Age decorum while others were stuck in the 80s. People started destroying the walls, tearing apart furniture, and spray painting everything. It had to be torn down, it was so bad
One of the things that drives me nuts about newer "explorers." Nothing is sacred and so many people show up to do damage rather than document the place. Not all of them are like this, but enough are there to perpetrate some horrible destruction on a place that would never get that bad otherwise.
Empty for at least a decade. Sadly, since this photo was taken, people have stolen things from out of it and have done some serious vandalism in there. It had stained glass windows, and someone went and smashed them to smithereens. Breaks the heart.
True, that. None of us locally have been able to figure out why no one has bought this place with intent to restore. At the very least, it would make an amazing AirBnB, or a bed and breakfast, or a small and charming restaurant. It COULD be done. No takers though, and it gets worse by the month.
This makes more sense. I looked at the pic firsr, read the caption second and was confused because it may be the least vandalized pic you've ever posted. 🤣
This is an amazing shot and POV. It’s really interesting how fast style changes. Great post.
Onto Season 2 of your great podcast. I thought I would only see you post industrial. 🙂

But at least you have images before the vandalism. That no one is claiming it boggles my mind. Thank you for sharing!

I AM a Rust Belter and an admirer of industrial architecture! It's in my blood! Not to worry; I have plenty of churches, schools, etc!
I really hate people sometimes.
