I feel like “hi, how are you?” is a question to use only if you are genuinely prepared to hear about their life and not brush them off in a quick exchange. It’s a loaded question that can trigger emotions when clearly this person is going through a difficult time.
Idk man. It's different when I'm approached as a tiny woman alone at night at a Gary, IN truck stop while i fuel my truck. That's a lot scarier.
I'm not doing any of that shit, it's too dangerous.
I buy bananas and water every time I go to Walmart. When I leave the parking lot, there's always someone on the corner who's happy to get a banana and a bottle of water.
I used to get approached in parking lots. I would always listen to them. I would always give them money. Yeah, maybe some were frauds, but if even only 1 out of 10 were legitimate, that one person got something to eat that day.
Not every panhandler is “nice” and will want to strike up a conversation. I live in Seattle and I’ve run into some pretty nasty panhandlers. I use discretion when dealing with street people.
