part of it was definitely a lot of trial, I grew up always drawing and loving cartoons, comics and strips, so exaggerated stuff always interested me more. It was a matter of learning the basics / realism later and mix them together ~ Although for a while I tied myself down...

...Anyways, some of my biggest inspirations in that journey have been works like One Piece (have you seen those character designs?), Zelda (specially the gamecube and wii era), JRPGs, A lot of art I see online and a lot of throwing completely unrelated stuff together and seeing what sticks!

There is no one way, I do multiple myself, it depends on the character tbh. My biggest tip is to look at your own hands, or someone else's, and draw them, realistically. Learn hands as best as you can, then simplify them, find YOUR way to simplify them.
Style is just your personal shorthand!

There are a few contenders, all travellers who happen to cook on the road, its some hearty stuff ~ (coincidentally both reheads)
There's Nasthan, the cook of the Blue Phoenix crew and Welfenspeise (from DnD). Both are PROS.

How do you exaggerate features and bodies to express your characters so well? I struggle with feeling constrained to 'realism' with my art, so I wonder if you have any advice?

Honestly, some years ago I felt restricted by realism too, I kept thinking I needed to make my designs "make sense" and "be practical", but that's total BS, just go wild and have fun!
I have fun with shapes, sillhouettes, a lot of experiementing before the final result. Thumbnailing helps a lot !

How did the three temple priestesses meet? Were they raised together? Was there a tournament (arc) to gain their positions, or were they born with them? Do any of them resent their current position in life?

None of them resent it, they are quite happy in their position - Syrinx was adopted into the temple, Maritsa was born into the temple and Aestus moved into it later, she's from a different temple originally.
So Syrinx and Maritsa grew up together, then Aestus showed up later. And they're all happy!

The trope I hate the most, it instantly turns me off to a story (anime does this a lot) is the extremely powerful/talented protagonist. Like, every episode is them flexing how amazing their are. I get sick of it so quickly. (One punch man is the least egregious example and I still don’t like it).

And one of my favourites I think is the joke/comedy relief character that later reveals to be super tragic. That and the lesser villain that joins the protagonist against a greater evil.

That I can recall it was a while ago, I was at a restaurant with some friends and I was already quite tired, then one of them, who was sitting next to me, pulled his phone, which dragged against the table making a fart noise and that tickled my exhausted mind so much I couldn’t stop cackling.

That’s a good question, I always imagined she was born into it, although to be fair I never thought about her life that far back. So let’s go with that, she was adopted by her temple and has lived there ever since, growing into her position and adopting the people there as her family

honestly, most MOST, is really difficult, but every day, when my dog is hungry or wants to play, he sits down and gently puts his paw on my lap, then looks at me with his big sparkly eyes and my heart melts instantly
