@randahl I deleted my post criticizing this video. Mark Rober released a longer video of the crash. It seems that Autopilot disengaged a moment before impact but the video editing made it look like it was never on.

Computers can do extremely complex calculations orders of magnitude faster than humans. Combined with the ability to monitor multiple points of view at the same time, tech hardware that works (lidar), and some ingenious coding, autonomous cars will eventually be safer than human driven cars.

@BubblegumYeti in theory, if a car could safely drive me to my vacation destination during the night while I was a sleep, I would love that.

Similarly, if trucks could be driven automatically during the night, that would free up road capacity during the day.

@randahl yes, pretty low on priorities tbh. Trains already solve most of that 😎 self driving on highways is probably the only realistic goal tbh and that could indeed help trucks.
