#OnThisDay 28 Jan 1808 Prince John of Portugal signed the "Abertura dos Portos" law.

It allowed trading between Brazil & "friendly nations", particularly Great Britain.

It broke the colonial pact that had forced Brazil to have commercial relations with Portugal only 🇧🇷🇵🇹
