Have you tried #Chirp yet?
It’s a Twitter (not really alternative) like site which is in the making by a single 19 year old who is doing it to learn PHP!
It’s all open source so you can check out the progress & make a fork if you want here: https://github.com/actuallyaridan/chirp

Some FAQ:
API available?
-Not yet, the developer (@actuallyaridan on X) needs to see whether this actually gets used when it’s public. THEN he will learn how to build an API.
-DM either @use_chirp or @actuallyaridan on Twitter/X and ask for an invite code.
How can I get a checkmark?
-They are being handed out carefully so that they are genuinely useful, like Twitter 1.0, you need to have either been impersonated before or be a well-known public figure.
-Chirp will work on all browsers from 2018 and newer (IIRC), but a Chirp Legacy option will remain to work on older browsers (this has worked on old iPod touchs!)
-Chirp is developed by one person, who is doing it to learn PHP (programming language), it’s still coming along but it’s community lead, so feel free to make GitHub PRs!

Just thought I’d share an interesting open source project from my friend!
he's not copied any code from Twitter himself, he wrote it from the ground up.
