Unfortunately the expense and "get a job"-ness of college has largely destroyed that magic for all but the most studious and/or least burdened. And that's not the fault of the "college is bullshit" crowd in the main, it's the fault of policymakers and administrators.

If college were cheap and thought of as a public good and not a hoop to jump through, people would a lot freer to explore and enjoy the challenge, and people who say "college is bullshit" would just be the parents complaining that their kids have gotten too mouthy. like it used to be.

I think they should let you go to college in installments, like as soon as you start to appreciate learning you take a semester or two before you burn out, recover for a year or so, then go back when you’re ready to learn again

I remember my 100-level philosophy class, very first semester, talking about Descartes and whether we exist, the professor gleefully fucking with us; and I saw in real-time the sorting of those who just wanted the paper and wanted out vs. the ones who were there for the whole ride.
