In indie rpgs back in the later 00s, a lot of us were exploring the idea of social conflict. One of the ways we approached it was by casting social engagements as sword fights, inspired by the metaphor of the "duel of wits." You had your thrusts, your parries, your ripostes, your cutting remarks...

What if the purpose of the fight, mechanically, was to get to know each other better?
I sat down and wrote a minigame called "Meeting Sword to Sword."
"I pretend to falter and lower my guard. Do I draw you out, or do you recognize the ploy and hold steady?"
"I catch your wrist in my hand and draw you close to me. Do you let your sword drop, or do you shove me away and fight on?"
If you love the duel in The Princess Bride (and who doesn't?), maybe check it out!
