The government needs to let them go bust. The markets need to know that we won’t socialise their losses anymore. The bailout following the financial crisis set a dangerous precedent.

Nationalisation gives a big payday to the people that currently own the companies. Instead we should compulsory purchase all the physical assets at current value and offer all PAYE employees the same role with continuous service. Leave investors with the stump of the holding company.

They were allowed to raise prices on the condition that they cleaned up our water. Instead, they rewarded their CEOs for failure, which they couldn’t afford to do as they are now in debt. Now they are raising prices again.

They clearly aren’t up to the job, so should be relieved of it

The cost.

Nationalisation without compensation will kill UK inward investment.

The approach must be to stop Water Companies increasing charges simply to pay dividends and bonuses.

Legal action to claw back misuse of the charges since privatisation by CONs.

Any that go bust are nationalised.

They're terrified of letting go of the idea of "modernisation" & they've been sold the pup that only private industry can be truly modern.
Also, when a business goes bust, their debtors/shareholders loose.
That's the good bit about private industry.
So no they wouldn't have to compensate investors.

I would suspect not only the economic costs associated with nationalisation (both direct and also knock on effects to other businesses) but also because the nationalised industry then becomes yet another government problem for people to beat ministers with.

Yes, because the government doesn't get any blame at all at the moment. Folks everywhere are happy that rivers full of shit is just something the government cannot fix, nothing to do with them.
