The cognitive dissonance of this government is staggering. It’s not as if they can claim they are like the climate deniers and minimisers who are the Tory and Reform parties. They have in Ed Miliband someone who is fully aware of the consequences of climate crisis. Yet they ignore it. What a shame.

Utterly stupid! We get flooded here now due to building on a local field and paving over front gardens.

Lived here for 36 years. Now have sandbags all along the garden wall.
Labour are crazy!plus people wont get a mortgage or be abke to sell tgeir house later.

With the plans to reduce planning regulations the next thing that scares me is the small modular reactors being built on floodplains too! I agree we may need them until the energy firms realise the power of our tides and forget their shareholder's wallets and see the regular power of the sea!

Any officers approving these plans, be it central or local government, should be charged with misconduct in public office. Any councillors approving them should be personally surcharged when the properties get inevitably flooded.

Our city council tried to stop a developer building 700 houses in a flood area. Quite often the developers sue, and councils cave for fear of losing in court and being fined.
It's a mess.

I’m not being snotty, just trying to understand - there’s entire swathes of land here that are in the flood zone 3. It says in the article, that this area accounts for 52% of homes at risk. Can houses not be built here at all? That’s a lot of people, presumably.

Not that the whole of those places, or anything like, are floodplains. But developers like to build on flat, greenfield sites for maximum profit. "Water views" add even more

When we look at nice wee cottages with a stream at the bottom of the garden, I always say how charming it is, and my husband always wonders how often it floods. I call him a pessimist but maybe he’s just realistic!

It astounds me that people don't realise this, it is called a flood plain for a reason. The Egyptians didn't build on the flood plain for a reason. Yet we are supposed to be a more advanced society. Doesn't always feel like we are.
