I know that if you ask some of these folks about NIH, the response will be about woke gain-of-function research or equivalent. I would just hope someone, from this list or otherwise, would believe that health research and jobs are good things to support.

Just because someone is an MD don’t assume they value science or research. The NIH might just represent another elitist institution to the GOP - until they get cancer and then wonder why there’s no new treatments or clinical trials in which to enroll.

I know NIH might turn back on in a week and everyone can laugh at the hysterical academics freaking out over nothing. But it also may not (or may come back but with important work imperiled), and Congress may need to act to save jobs and protect health. And that will require bipartisan support.
