Not surprised. The only thing they really had in common was opposition to abortion and things like gay marriage. Add to that the fact that the Evangelicals were never going to accept Catholics as "real" Christians and it was always a shaky alliance.

I wrote this at 6a: I love Catholicism but was brought up in the Protestant church. Many of us were taught to look down on Catholics. Their holy water, statues and getting sins absolved by a priest. The MAGA Christian extremists do not care what the Pope says. Plus Biden 🙏🏼♥️ was close to the Pope.
