Starmer's Labour got 20.15% of ELIGIBLE VOTERS to vote Labour, many with reservations. (Many didn't vote FOR Labour: they voted NO to Tories.)
Corbyn's Labour: 27.5% in '17, 21.6% in '19!

So it is - to an extent - also about personalities.
But not as popular & respected as Corbyn.
To transpose to 🇺🇸, would you admire/like Trump as a man if he espoused the POLITICS of Jill Stein or Claudia de la Cruz?
In politics - as in life - personalities count. Perhaps more than they should, but - in this particular case - I TRUST Corbyn more than I'd ever trust Starmer.
