I think that is right for some but I think most are like the average citizen in Weirmar Germany who turned their eyes away when they saw the atrocities that the Brown Shirts were perpetuating. They voted against the status quo that they believe isn't working for them. - ThreadSky

If we write them all off as evil or racist to the core, why even bother trying to continue building a more perfect union? Why care about politics if half the people we share this nation with aren't worth fighting for?

Agreed, this does not apply to all but turning their eyes away is being complicit. If we move forward understanding this I feel that we have a better chance of having a different outcome. There are many that are worth saving and fighting for.

Of course it's complicit and it's wrong. That said, most of us can probably agree that the status quo isn't working for us either and we need politicians who are going to offer an optimistic alternative to the status quo that is inclusive.

I also agree that the government needs to work for more people, not just the wealthy.

That said, half the people in this country looked at Nazis, racists, misogynists, rapists, felons, & bigots, then said "Sure! I'll vote for those people to run the country!"
