81-year-old congresswoman Kay Granger, who family says has dementia, transferred the deed for her home to retired two-star general William F. Garrison in July for $10. Garrison is a veteran of the Vietnam War's infamous Phoenix Program.

Deeds are not required to list the full purchase price. In fact the vast majority of deeds don't list the full purchase price. Attorneys include $10 as "nominal consideration" when drafting deeds. It's likely the house sold for fair market value. 🤷♂️
You can pass on real estate assets to FAMILY, without it conflicting with the requirement of not having given away assets.
It is a specific question that is included in Medicaid benefits applications.
Surely, she HAD sizable assets?
Klippenstein is digging, now. What will he uncover, next?
I would bet that there was *something* fishy going on because one thing Medicaid eventually requires is the sale of the home for payments to a nursing facility. I googled her and she does have "descendants," according to Wikipedia.
IOW, wealthy people become socialists when it comes to their nursing home care. Or kind-of-socialists, because the end-game is make sure the estate passes to their heirs.
Came here to say this. “$10 and other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged etc etc” is standard boilerplate to foreclose a mostly-dead argument that a deed is an invalid contract for want of consideration.
" the records, labeled a “general warranty deed,” do not make clear what amount of money, if any, was paid for the property, aside from a standard $10 fee. "
I alway thought we don’t need term limits because that’s what regular voting is for but between citizens united and this kind of shit, I’ve had to rethink.
Wow…what a story! Considering how old the average age is in Congress, this should be regular reporting! Considering the small majority in the house by Republicans, of course they don’t want it getting out. So sad for her, but shame on those who knew.
Thinking back to the transparently propaganda articles calling biden and trump “super-agers” saying their brains are actually -better- because they’re so old
I am trying to find out (maybe I really should read the article), but, was wondering, did she run last November and was she elected for the seat in 2024 as well???
Ah… thank you for this confirmation, at least the constituents didn’t get tricked in voting for her this time then. But wow, this is such a crazy story… absent since July!
We need cognitive tests for professional politicians over 70 if they cannot pass they must be forced out. I hope Kay gets the help she needs. Which will be more help that the public gets.
What I’d like to know is who’s been casting votes for her during the six months that she’s not been there and been in a care facility for dementia? Why hasn’t she been forced to give up her seat if she is unable to carry out the duties she was elected to carry out for her constituents?
"The records, labeled a “general warranty deed,” do not make clear what amount of money, if any, was paid for the property, aside from a standard $10 fee. "
The outrage generic libs are putting towards this like “the GOP needs to be investigated!!!” shows they have zero clue about the stories on Biden, RBG, and Senator Feinstein.
If anything, when I first read your report I assume she was a democrat.
It's common practice. Wealthy people want the gov. to pay for their nursing home care so they take steps like this. There is a 5 year look back period, but it's a way to get on Medicaid (which will pay for the facility) and not lose your entire estate.
She was not capable of making such a decision. That can be proven. There are always shady people in the background, guiding their decisions to benefit themselves.
I completely understand the reason that you or I would do such a thing, I'm talking about a mentally incapacitated woman who has no idea where she was or who she was with. I restate my comment: she was robbed
I've been through this... a good elder law attorney took it to court...legal guardian appointed and charges with returning all assets, property, car, etc. to their original ownership. this does not have to be a done deal.
Interesting. I suppose we'll just have to see how this story develops; however, as with most stories like this - it will probably die down (and out) due to family privacy issues.
Around the same time, Shanna Granger, the wife of former Panther Island executive J.D. Granger, accepted a $150,000 loan to fund the event from her mother-in-law: U.S. Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth.
No sympathy. She is not a good person. She was 1 of the US officials that went to Russia on the 4th of July a few yrs ago. She has voted against everything that would help real ppl. She is bought & paid for. Tots & pears I guess
I don’t want to sound agist and there are definitely plenty of competent people in their 70s and 80s, but I do feel like congress members should be forced not to seek re-election in the next election if they turn 75. Plus I think senators should only serve a max two terms and house members a max 6
I've always felt that if we can declare that those under 25 aren't fit to be considered eligible for Congress, we should be able to say the same of people who are 70+ years old.
But I do admit, “career” politicians can have benefits, mainly veteran Congress people tend to be moderated by Washington. Because if you notice, republicans elected to Congress in the past decade are far more MAGA than republicans elected before say the tea party wave during 2010 elections
What happened to Congresswoman
Kay Granger (R-TX) should concern
us all. She was put in a nursing home
in secret 6 months ago and was just
FOUND. If they're willing to do that to
one of their own what the fuck would
they do to you and me? They locked
her up like Rochester's WIFE!

Seemingly.
Something odd about all of it.
From the article
We literally have almost no worthwhile representation of the people in government.
And our courts are utterly compromised, completely unjust in every major decision.
I don’t know what to do. This is untenable, not in the future, RIGHT NOW.
From the article
We need term limits. This is insane
Many have been convicted of it. Not a single one of our elected officials in TX--all R(s)--is capable of honesty on a sustained basis.

I'd be curious to know if she has a legal guardian and/or who has power of attorney right now. Someone has to be handling her affairs.
Plenty of money moving around.
